Mullen vs. Lutheran Location: Lutheran High School in Parker, CO ( 11249 Newlin Gulch Blvd, Parker, CO 80134) Game time: 6:30 pm Locker Rooms open @5:20 Boots on by 5:45 Dynamic Warm up on Track @5:50 Field warm up @6 Notes: This match report is a little different considering it is our second time playing Lutheran in the Last 2 weeks. For that reason you need to read the initial match report, and then come and read this one. The link is copied in the email sent to you.  Tonight's keys to success: *We have spent a lot of time in film and at practice making small tweaks to our system in preparation for tonight. Everything you have done up to this point has been in preparation for tonight. If we execute perfectly, do our jobs as individuals, we will move through to the semi finals. 1. Press to our marking assignments : As we saw in the initial game against Lutheran, when we found ourselves in a wing to wing marking situation on the strong side, it pushed our defense deep into ou...

Match Report: Mullen vs. Durango (Playoffs Round 2)

Match Report- Mullen vs. Durango Location: Mullen High School (3601 S. Lowell Blvd.) Kick off: Noon Arrival time: 10:50 Boots on by 11:15/Warm up @11:20 Notes: We learned a lot of good things from our TCA game in the first round and I believe if we can implement them going forward, we will be increasingly difficult to beat! Let's learn, grow, and win. Durango Strengths: This Durango team is both athletic and technical. They have a handful of strengths that we need to be aware of going into the second round of the playoffs.  1. They have a couple players of interest. Their CBs seem to be good 1v1 players who will fight hard for the ball in the air. Their center forward and left wing comprise most of their offense. In that way, they are constantly looking for ways to push their striker beyond the front line. When they can't manage that, they employ the wings a little more, both of whom can send a nice cross across the box. The wingers are faster than they are technical, and if ...

Match Report: Mullen vs. TCA (Playoffs round 1)

Mullen vs. The Classical Academy Location: Mullen High School (3601 S Lowell Blvd) Time: Kickoff @5:00 Team meeting @2:45 Boots on by 4:15/Warm-up @4:20 Notes/History: This is the first round of the playoffs so everyone has a clean slate. Congratulations on a hard fought regular season and a great seed going into the tournament. Now, leave all that behind and remember the numbers don't matter, everyone just wants to win and stay alive. Also, though it was before your time at Mullen, remember that this match up has history. A handful of years ago, TCA had a state championship bound team, and Mullen showed up at their school and knocked them out in overtime in the second round. Their coach is going to want some revenge, and you know he is going to be telling these girls that it is time to get some payback. We have to go out 1000 percent, and leave nothing to chance. TCA Strengths: TCA has 2.5 players that are integral to their system. The right winger (she wears the number eight and...

Match Report: Mullen vs. LC

Mullen vs. LC      Location: Mullen High School (3601 S Lowell Blvd) Varsity @9am JV @10:30 I know it is an early morning so we will try to keep this tight: LC will come out in one of two fashions - they will either be looking to open the game and use their strong winger to cross balls into the box, or they will sit low and hope to counter. Based on what I know about the coach, I imagine she is putting together a relatively defensive strategy. LC has a couple of weapons: In their attack they rely heavily on the right winger. She has good ball control, good speed, and she can send in a dangerous cross. LC also does well to get in the box and finish opportunities. On the other end, they have a big central striker who is a good leader and does well to clear the ball and stifle opportunities. We are going to have to try to navigate around her to finish set pieces and put the ball in the back of the net. Finally, LC is a technical team who can move the ball around when t...

Match Report: Mullen vs. Lutheran

Match Report: Mullen vs. Lutheran Location: Lutheran High School Turf Field ( 11249 Newlin Gulch Blvd, Parker, CO 80134) JV@4:30 - Arrive by 3:40 Varsity@6:30 - Arrive by 5:30 (Boots on by 5:45) Lutheran Strengths: #17 has a huge impact on the game. She plays the OB on the right side and she likes to penetrate through the interior lanes. On the dribble, she draws the back line toward her and allows attacking players to run in behind at which time she plays a direct ball. Our shape will be elemental in containing her. #7 plays the 10 and she is incredibly dynamic. She moves well through the half spaces and is willing to turn and shoot or distribute at speed. Our 6s need to track her movement and stay tight so she can't break the lines. 11 (maybe...) She plays the nine and she is willing to shoot from anywhere. She prefers to make penetrating runs in front of goal; however, against the block she can get frustrated with the lack of opportunity and she starts shooting from range. We h...

Match Report: Mullen vs. Overland

Mullen vs. Overland      Location: Mullen High School (3601 S Lowell Blvd.) Time: 4:30 pm Team meeting@2:45 Boots on @3:35 Warm up @3:40 Overland Strengths: Overland has a couple wins under their belt, and they can be a problem for unsuspecting teams on set pieces and controlled elements of the game. (They scored on Creek earlier this season) Their biggest strength is going to be their energy and commitment to tackles. We have to make sure to move the ball around quickly and remain strong in possession. We do not want to create a dynamic where we are turning the ball over in the middle and defensive third. This is Overland's last game of the season, they are going to be fighting for something. Additionally, Overland has only had one game in the past couple of weeks so they are rested and have had an opportunity to practice. We have to come out with a serious mentality. This is a win we need down the stretch. Overland Weaknesses: 1. They have taken a lot of knocks th...
